O LE MALAGA FA'A'ATUA

On Tuesday the Court Theatre came to our school at preformed a play for us it was super funny and I really enjoyed. The play was about a coconut and it was called O LE MALAGA FA'A'ATUA And how the first coconut tree was made from an Eel. I really enjoyed the show because it was super funny and I learned lot's of new words , And I never ever new that the first thing coconut tree was made form an eel  But you never know that it could be fake it might just be lie but we never know. My favourite part of the show was when Maui was going to get a fish hook he was acting so funny and I actually also really liked the part where Maui was trying to get weapons the fight the eel. The show over all it was loud but one of the best shows I have ever seen If I where to watch it again I would be happy too.

winter sport

Every Thursday My hub and the year 7 and 8's go down to Hagley Park and play a sport. I play netball but you can play soccer, rugby, hockey and netball. You have to choose what you would like to play.

My netball team this year is called the Tarantulas and we have won every game we have faced. My fitness level has improved so much this year. My mum is my coach and before every game we play we have to to warm up and she challenges us and makes us run a lot. She makes us do high knee she makes us do lunges and the list goes on and on. It is best way to get our fitness up and it will stop us from getting a injury which is good because I love to  play sport and it would be super annoying if I couldn't. I think that my team this year works much more better together because we are all friends. We get along but the best thing is, we all  know how they like to play because some are in my Friday netball team too.  The thing is, why we win is because we don't give up and we play hard until the game is over. My team don't give up even if they are down at the start, but since we don't give up we come back with a win. I think that is why we have won all of our games. I think this year I have improved with my lobs because last year, I would always do lobs and the other team would get the ball and my team would get very mad at me.  I have also improved my chest passes.  I have really enjoyed this season and I love winter sport and I can not wait till next year.

Cycle safe

On Tuesday,Wednesday,Thursday and Friday the year 6's had cycle safety at first I was very very  to do nervous it it but in the end  I did it and I Evan past the test to make it on the road I did my on Tuesday and Friday. On Tuesday we had to practise for the road and on Friday we went on the road we learned what to do if we come across a road a bout and what to do if you come across traffic lights. I was really happy when we got back for lunch because my back was really sore and in pain and my bike stopped working on the road. but over all I thought it was really fun and I loved biking with my friends.

I have a question for you: How much do you enjoy biking. 

And maybe next time I will be happy to do cycle safety. 

Lets save the earth

This term in reading we have been reading about the environment. I have enjoined learning about how we can save the earth.

For reading this week my group read this book called Renewable energy.

The new ideas I have now since I have read this text are:

• using renewable energy means better air and healthier lungs.
• Plants can be used as fuels. crops leftover food, wood and waste can be burned. 
• Special pavements can create power by footsteps stepping down on them.
• human warmth can be used heat buildings.

I have learnt that there ar a lot of ways that we can save the earth but we are not doing that.

Eco and Me

This Week on Tuesday Erica Came In to us and talked about her business Eco and me and how she had made metal straws instead of plastic,she also talked about how much plastic we are using and how it takes about 5 years to brake down so that is why Erica made her business Eco and me.

 But she did not just make metal straws She made reusable coffee cups and bags for the super market that you can but your vegetable in  she also tolled us about some other items that she wanted to bring into her business Like Bags that you can but meat in and other items in.


 Then On Wednesday Glen came in and talked about how he got rid of plastic cups and the rugby,Cricket and other events. I thought It was cool because When you bring back the cup you get one dollar and he told us how a lot of kids go round picking up cups and earning a lot of money thank you for reading also I have a question what would you do to help save the earth?

PBL - Term 1

This term our Project Based Learning PBL has been about kindness and the big question was: How can we build community through our actions?

First, we explored some collaborative activities and discussed how we could include kindness and build a sense of community through our actions at camp. Next, we were organised into groups where we had to unpack the above question. In our groups we considered how we could spread community and kindness through our entire school community. We decided that we would offer something that was free and would make others happy.

We created an action plan and had an idea to make gift baskets for the teachers but then we decided to do multi sports for Paiaka so then we talked to the Paiaka teachers and they agreed to do it.


For our final product our group was running games for the children in Paiaka Hub.

How did our action build a sense of community in the school? because running fun games makes kids happy and it gives the kids the chance to experience new people and to play with different people.

I contributed by bringing the kids out and helping my group telling about the game and getting the equipment.

I think the PBL might impact on others by making the paiaka kids happy. 

What I learned about working with others was hard because we could not agree on a thing to do because some people would want to do something else but other people would want to do something and know one  would agree.

Lip Scrub Sells Out!

This term our Project Based Learning (PBL) has been about design and the big question was; How can we use a Steam approach to make a marketable product?

First we learned what STEAM stood for. 

S for Science

T for Technology

E for Engineering

A for the Arts

and M for Maths

Then we were given challenges. The first to make a chair using newspaper, string and straws that was able to hold a figure made out of multi-link blocks.

Then; make a table that was able to balance MnMs for the team. We were much better at the second challenge because …  when new what we did wrong and in the first challenge also in the first challenge We did not work as a team but in the second  challenge when worked much better as a team.

In Literacy we learned to write up science experiments and to write a technology report using the design process of ask, imagine, plan, create, improve and share.

Our next step was to form teams and ask ourselves the big question again.

How can we use a Steam approach to make a marketable product? Our aim was to create enough products or experiences and sell it to raise money for charity.

My team made this lip scrub we made bubblegum and lemonade flavor lip scrub.  

My highlight from this PBL was that our lip scrub went fast and so many people bought it we made about 85 dollars.  

Next time I would change the product because so many other groups made lip scrub and it would be nice to make something different.
